Melinda Cary    

 

          Melinda Cary is an actress, vocalist, songwriter, playwright, poet, dancer, costume designer, and visual artist. For the last five years she has been an artist in residence for the New York based theater company-The Shelter and been an active member of the NYC Poetry Brothel. She has a BA in Musical Theater from University of Northern CO and is a member of the Actors Equity Association. Her original productions have been featured at festivals, variety shows, theaters and music venues nationally.

 

         Original productions written by Melinda Smart include black-light electronica operetta: Dance of the Spider (Apogaea Festival, Exotica Erotica Ball, Boulder, CO), The Pretty Dreams Tour (Burning Man, Apogaea Festival, Boulder Fringe Festival), Robot Romance (Global Dance Music Festival, The Shelter NYC), Her American Dream (Burning Man, San Francisco Decompression, Cabaret Cataplexy NY ), Detour: A Film Noir Tribute (Galapagos Art Space NY), and Salvadora Dolly (The Shelter, NYC) Perfume and Maple (The Shelter-NYC), A Christmas Family Christmas (The Shelter- NYC), A Military Tree (The Shelter NYC), and Passing Ships (The Shelter NYC). She is also a featured actress with the company.

 

One of her favorite acting roles include Antimony in the Burning Opera- How to Survive the Apocalypse (Teatro Zinzanni, San Francisco) for which she is featured on the original cast album.
